GIF to MP4
Convert an animated GIF, WebP or APNG into an MP4 video that Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp and every player accept. Repeat short loops, pick a background for transparency, and keep the file on your device.
How it works
- Frames are decoded with the browser’s ImageDecoder, or with a small JavaScript GIF decoder where that isn’t available, keeping each frame’s exact delay.
- Each frame is drawn on your background colour and encoded as H.264 with WebCodecs, usually on your graphics hardware.
- If the browser can’t encode H.264, the MP4 is made with FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly, downloaded once. WebM output works without it.
Questions
Why convert a GIF to MP4?
An MP4 is often 5–20 times smaller than the GIF, and many apps and social networks accept video but not GIF uploads.
What happens to transparency?
Video has no transparency, so transparent pixels get the background colour you pick: white, black or any other.
My GIF is only one second long. Can the video be longer?
Yes. Play the animation 2, 3 or 5 times in a row; the video simply repeats it.
Is there sound?
No. GIFs have no audio, so the MP4 is silent.
