Hanko stamp maker

Make a red Japanese seal (hanko / inkan) with 1–4 characters, round or square, and download it as a transparent PNG or SVG, or stamp it straight onto a PDF.

The seal uses a Mincho font installed on your device. The SVG keeps the text as text, so it looks the same only where that font exists; the PNG and the stamped PDF are fixed images.

Stamp a PDF

How it works

  1. Characters are set in a Mincho typeface and squeezed to fill the seal, the way carved seals are. Four-character seals read right column first.
  2. For PDFs, click the spot on the page where the seal goes. It is drawn with multiply blending, so the text underneath stays readable, like real ink.
  3. Everything is drawn in your browser; neither the seal nor the PDF is uploaded.

Questions

Is this a legally valid seal?

It is a picture of a seal, fine for internal approvals and documents where an image stamp is accepted. It is not a registered seal (実印) and not a digital signature.

The characters look wrong or show as boxes.

The seal uses a Mincho font installed on your device. Windows, macOS, iOS and Android include one; on some Linux systems install Noto Serif CJK.
