PSD to PNG converter

Convert PSD and PSB to PNG online without Photoshop. Save the whole picture or every layer as a separate PNG with transparency. Files are never uploaded.

How it works

  1. Drop a .psd or .psb file. It is decoded by ag-psd, an open-source Photoshop file reader, in a background thread of this tab.
  2. The picture is the composite image Photoshop stored in the file. If the file was saved without “Maximize compatibility”, that image is blank, so the visible layers are stacked instead and the page tells you.
  3. Each layer can be saved as its own PNG, cropped to its pixels and with transparency, or all of them at once in a ZIP. 16-bit and 32-bit files become 8-bit PNG.

Questions

Is my PSD uploaded?

No. The file is read and converted in this browser tab, and the page has no server to send it to.

Do I need Photoshop?

No. Any modern browser opens the file. Text, vector and smart object layers come out as Photoshop last rendered them.

Why does the picture look different from Photoshop?

The file was saved without “Maximize compatibility”, so it has no ready composite. The page stacks the visible layers with normal blending; blend modes, layer effects and adjustment layers are not applied. Re-save with that option on to get the exact picture.

Is transparency kept?

Yes. Transparent areas stay transparent in the PNG, both for the whole picture and for single layers.

Which files are not supported?

CMYK, Lab and multichannel files: save a copy in RGB mode first. Bitmap, grayscale, indexed, RGB and PSB large documents open.

How big can the file be?

The limit is your device memory: layers are unpacked into raw pixels, which take far more space than the PSD itself.
