Remove image background

Cut out people, products and pets into a transparent PNG, or put them on a white background for ID and passport photos. The AI runs in your browser.

The model downloads once to your device; your photo never leaves it. Nothing starts until you choose a photo.

Model

How it works

  1. The model downloads once to your device; your photo never leaves it.
  2. A segmentation model runs on your graphics card through WebGPU, or on the processor with WebAssembly when WebGPU is not available.
  3. The mask is applied at the full resolution of your photo, with soft edges for hair.
  4. Switch between transparent, white or any color instantly: the model doesn’t need to run again.

Questions

Is my photo uploaded?

No. The model downloads once to your device; your photo never leaves it. The page only downloads: the AI engine from this site and the model weights from Hugging Face. Nothing is sent back.

How big is the download?

People mode is 13–26 MB. Any-subject mode is 115 MB and needs WebGPU (current Chrome, Edge and other Chromium browsers); without WebGPU only People mode runs. Models are stored in your browser and reused, also offline.

Which models are used?

BiRefNet lite (MIT licence) for any subject and MODNet (Apache 2.0) for people. Both allow commercial use of your results.

Can I use it for a passport photo?

Yes: choose People and a white background. Check your country’s rules for size and head position before printing.

How do I free the space?

Use “Remove model from this device” under the result, or clear site data for this site in your browser.
