Copy the text from a screenshot

Turn a screenshot into text you can copy: paste it with Ctrl+V, OCR reads it in 25 languages and you copy the text or save a .txt. Nothing is uploaded.

    How it works

    1. Take a screenshot, then press Ctrl+V on this page or “Paste from clipboard”. You can also drop image files, many at once.
    2. Tesseract OCR reads the text in your browser. Small screenshots are enlarged first so tiny text is read better.
    3. Check the outlined lines, fix anything if needed and press “Copy text”.

    Questions

    Is the screenshot uploaded?

No. Recognition happens on this device; only the OCR engine and language files are downloaded once.

    Which languages can it read?

25 languages, among them English, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Hindi, Chinese, Japanese and Korean, up to three at once.

    Can it read handwriting?

Only neat block letters, and not reliably. It is built for printed and on-screen text.
