Trim and cut a video
Cut the start and end of a video on a timeline, crop it to 9:16, 1:1, 16:9 or 4:5, rotate or flip it, and remove the sound. Simple cuts copy the video without re-encoding, so even big files take seconds.
How it works
- Drag the handles on the thumbnail timeline, or type exact times. Play the selection to check it.
- A plain cut copies the original video and audio packets: no quality loss, and a 2 GB file is done in seconds. It starts at the nearest keyframe; choose Frame-exact to re-encode from the exact frame.
- Crop, flip and frame-exact cuts decode and re-encode every frame on your device with WebCodecs. Rotation alone is stored as metadata, without re-encoding.
Questions
Is the video uploaded?
No. The file is read in pieces from your disk and the new video is built in this tab. Nothing is sent anywhere.
Why does the fast cut start a little earlier?
Compressed video can only start cleanly at a keyframe, usually every 1–2 seconds. The fast cut starts at the keyframe just before your start, and the page shows you exactly where. Choose Frame-exact to start on any frame.
Which formats work?
MP4, MOV and M4V take the fast path, with H.264, HEVC and VP9 copied as they are. WebM, MKV, AVI and codecs your browser cannot decode are handled by FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly, which is slower.
How big can the file be?
Up to 3 GB on the free plan. The file is streamed from disk, so a long video does not have to fit in memory.
