MP4 to MP3
Extract the soundtrack of MP4, MOV and other videos as an MP3. Works with long recordings and several files at once, without uploading them anywhere.
MP3 uses the LAME encoder (130 KB, downloaded once).
MP4
An MP4 video usually carries its sound as AAC. Nibbo takes that soundtrack out and encodes it on its own.
Long recordings such as lectures, meetings and concerts are handled in one go; the video picture is never decoded.
MP3
MP3 is the most widely supported audio format: every phone, car, speaker and website plays it.
MP3 is lossy. Converting it to a lossless format doesn’t restore detail, but gives editors the WAV they expect.
How it works
- Your browser decodes the MP4 file at its own sample rate, so a 44.1 kHz song stays 44.1 kHz. Rare formats such as WMA or AMR go through FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly.
- MP3 is encoded with LAME, the reference MP3 encoder, at the bitrate you pick.
- Several files are converted one after another and can be downloaded together as a ZIP.
Questions
Can I extract audio from a long video?
Yes. Only the soundtrack is decoded, so even a two-hour recording converts in a few minutes on a laptop.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Decoding and encoding run on this device. Only the encoder code (130 KB for MP3) is downloaded once.
Which MP3 quality should I pick?
192 kbps or VBR V2 sounds the same as the original to almost everyone. Use 320 kbps if a site asks for it, 64 kbps for speech only.
Does converting MP3 to FLAC or WAV improve quality?
No. A lossless file keeps exactly what the MP3 had, it can’t bring back what MP3 removed. It’s useful when an editor or a DJ program needs WAV.
