How to compress a photo to 20–50 KB for the SSC form, and the signature to 10–20 KB

The SSC form rejects photos over 50 KB and signatures over 20 KB. Shrink both on your phone in a minute, keep them sharp, and check the size before you upload.

Updated

Short answer: open SSC photo resize, drop your photo and download the result. It is cropped to the SSC shape and compressed to between 20 and 50 KB. Do the same with your signature in SSC signature resize, which aims for 10 to 20 KB. Nothing is uploaded to us: the photo is processed on your phone or computer.

What the SSC form asks for

Recent SSC notices (CGL, CHSL, MTS, GD) ask for:

These figures change between notices, and some SSC exams now take the photo live with the webcam during the application. Read the notice of your exam once before you prepare the files.

Steps: photo

  1. Take the photo against a plain light wall in daylight, face straight to the camera. A phone photo is fine.
  2. Open SSC photo resize and drop the photo (or tap to choose it).
  3. The photo is cropped from the centre to 275 × 354 pixels. If your face is not in the middle, use the passport photo maker instead: there you drag and zoom the crop yourself.
  4. The result line shows the new size and fits when it is between 20 and 50 KB. Press Download.

Steps: signature

  1. Sign three or four times on plain white paper with a dark pen, and pick the best one.
  2. Photograph it from straight above, in good light, without your hand’s shadow.
  3. Open SSC signature resize and drop the photo. It is cut to the 3:1 shape and compressed to 10 to 20 KB.
  4. Check that the strokes are still clean, then download.

Why the file is “too small”

The SSC form has a minimum too. A tiny 6 KB photo is rejected just like a 300 KB one. Nibbo keeps quality as high as the upper limit allows, and if a very plain image still comes out under the minimum, it adds an invisible comment to the file so it reaches 20 KB (or 10 KB for the signature). The picture itself does not change.

Other limits you may meet

The same method works for other forms; pick the portal in the Exam or government portal list or type your own number under Custom:

Check the size before you upload

Portals count 1 KB as 1000 or as 1024 bytes. Nibbo aims for at most 50,000 bytes for a 50 KB limit and at least 20,480 bytes for a 20 KB minimum, so the file passes either way. On Android, open the file in your file manager and look at Details; on Windows, right-click it and choose Properties.

FAQ

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. It is cropped and compressed by your browser on your own device. The page has no server that could receive it.

My photo is 48 KB but the form still rejects it. Why?

Check the file type and the dimensions in the notice. A PNG renamed to .jpg, or a photo with the wrong shape, is rejected even at the right size. The SSC preset always saves a real JPEG.

Can I use the same photo for SSC and IBPS?

Usually yes, both ask for 20–50 KB, but IBPS prefers 200 × 230 pixels. Run the original photo through the IBPS preset rather than reusing the SSC file.

Will compression make my face blurry?

At 20–50 KB a 275 × 354 photo stays clear. Blur usually comes from the original: a dark room, a moving hand or a dirty lens. Retake the photo in daylight if it looks soft.
